VNT Lantern Festival Event
The VNT Lantern Festival took place on February 23. This is in celebration of the Lunar New Year, and the associated Lantern Festival.
To truly embrace the spirit of the Lantern Festival, our event draws inspiration from Taiwan’s rich tradition to celebrate this occasion. Also known as Yuan Xiao Jie (元宵節), this festival marks the end of the New Year festivities and is a time when families come together to share joy, and lantern-lit streets create an enchanting atmosphere, and the air is filled with laughter.
An important part of this is the traditional game of the Lantern Riddles, which challenges the audience to solve the sometimes inimitable riddles. Fun guaranteed!
Before we started, Ann Heylen, Professor in the Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature and the Director of the International Taiwan Studies Center, National Taiwan Normal University and enthusiastic member of the VNT, gave a story about a book she contributed to, and it consists of about 20 stories that describe how the special relationship between Taiwan and the Netherlands came about, from both a Dutch and a Taiwanese perspective. At the bottom of this message you will find a flyer with more information about this book – and how you can order it.
A little later it was time for the competitions and for those who weren’t there this time we have a few more to think about:
1. What belongs to you, but other people use it more often?
2. The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?
We thank everyone for coming to another very enjoyable and successful VNT Event!
